Advanced Handling This class is a continuation of the handling series and will focus on teaching additional skills such as the 270 and back-up recall-to-heels, working on lines of motion, furthering our rear cross skills and appropriately applying past and new skills to mini-courses. Prerequisites: The dog is at least 1 year of age or older and has successfully completed Intermediate Handling or is able to do all of the prerequisites AND class goals of Intermediate Handling (see the Intermediate Handling description for prerequisites and class goals). Class Goals: Being able to appropriately apply the skills you have learned to a course so that you and your dog are able to successfully complete the obstacles, understanding line of motion, performance of 270 and back-up recall-to-heel, send to the back side of a jump, and an understanding of the 3 types of rear crosses.
Walking the Course In the walking the course class, the handler will learn basic sequencing by walking small course sequences deciding what is the “right “ way to handle their dog, then run the sequences allowing the dog / handler to work on side changes, off-leash control and some distance work. Handling skills taught / improved in this class will include front crosses, rear crosses, lead outs, distance, serpentines, 270s and 180s. Dog skill problems will be worked on as time allows.
